Chelsea is set to attempt to hijack the Newcastle deal for a defender, according to reports.

Newcastle is reportedly in the lead in talks with the player’s representation, but Chelsea has entered the battle to sign defender Tosin Adarabioyo for free.

Manchester United has entered the competition to recruit the defender, and the London club has made a contract offer, according to Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie on X.

It is known that Adarabioyo and Lloyd Kelly, who are both free agents this summer, are targets for Newcastle.

“By making a contract offer to the player, Chelsea has entered the competition for Newcastle’s Tosin Adarabioyo,” Downie stated.

“#CFC & #MUFC may both provide European football, but #NUFC made an offer right away. Newcastle has stated clearly where they stand with their offer. For the 26-year-old at this point in his career, a big decision.

After Manchester United won the FA Cup to claim an additional Europa League slot and move Chelsea into a Europa Conference League spot, Newcastle was unable to qualify for Europe.

ESPN reported reports indicating that the 26-year-old player, a former England youth international who made 14 appearances for the national team at the under-16 and under-19 levels, may also end up at Manchester United.

The player has not committed to a new deal with Fulham, despite earning £47,000 a week at the moment. There were rumoured to have been contract negotiations between the player and the team, but Adarabioyo made the decision to leave with less than a month remaining in the 2023–24 campaign.
