WHAT PALMER SAID ABOUT EURO 2024

“Everyone can see that the group is incredibly talented. We have some incredible players, so I’m ecstatic to be able to represent England there. With any luck, the group can come together and attempt to win a competition. Palmer told the Daily Mirror, “I just want to make everyone proud because the fans are amazing.”

Although it was fantastic to be there and I knew a couple of the adults from City and Chelsea, it was completely different from the under-21 team. I’m not used to it because I’ve only been twice, but maybe getting chosen will help. It’s distinct since it involves professionals who have been involved for a long time and is more intense. It’s excellent.”

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Palmer was an obvious choice for Southgate because of his club record at Chelsea, which included 25 goals in all competitions in 2023–2024. He carried the otherwise struggling Blues at times during the campaign, and he scored a lot of significant goals. One of his best goals while wearing Chelsea colours to date is his shot in the 101st minute against Manchester United in April, which remains as the most recent Premier League winner in history.

Palmer said: “I like the United one probably just for pure emotion. The Everton one at home, the one at Old Trafford. I’ve had a few that I like.”

WHAT NEXT FOR PALMER?

Although there is fierce competition for spots, Palmer will be looking to contribute as much as possible to Euro 2024. In the first week of June, England will play warm-up matches against Bosnia and Herzegovina and Iceland. After that, Southgate will have to make seven player cuts in order for his team to get to the ultimate competition in Germany. The first group matchup with Serbia is scheduled for June 16.
